Focused on delivering a seamless, user-friendly experience for both buyers and sellers looking to browse, buy, and sell used cars

Ensured a clean and professional design that builds trust with users, while emphasizing key features such as vehicle listings, secure transactions, and user reviews

Target Audience

Primary Users & End-Users: Individuals looking to buy or sell used cars in Malaysia

Demographic:

  • A mix of tech-savvy millennials and older generations seeking reliable and transparent platforms for purchasing used cars

  • Middle-income individuals and families who are looking for affordable, reliable vehicles

Behavior & Pain Points:

  • Users are often cautious when purchasing used cars due to concerns over reliability, pricing transparency, and trustworthiness of sellers

  • Buyers seek a platform that offers clear information about car condition, pricing, and previous ownership to make informed decisions

  • Sellers are looking for a quick, simple way to list their vehicles and reach a larger audience of potential buyers

  • Pain points include a lack of transparency in pricing, difficulty verifying car conditions, and lengthy communication processes between buyers and sellers

Goals & Challenges

Goals:

  • Design a user-friendly landing page that clearly communicates Carmine’s value proposition as a trusted, reliable platform for used car transactions

  • Create an intuitive experience that helps buyers easily browse cars by filtering for key criteria such as make, model, and price

  • Allow sellers to quickly and easily list their vehicles on the platform, with minimal hassle and a streamlined process

Challenges:

  • Conveying trust and reliability in a competitive market, where users are often wary of scams or misleading vehicle listings

  • Designing a clear, simple, and fast way for users to filter and search for cars, while ensuring the platform remains visually appealing and easy to navigate

  • Ensuring the platform’s design catered to both buyers and sellers without overwhelming the user with too much information

Key UX Decisions

The user journey begins when users land on the homepage, where they are presented with featured cars and simple CTAs like “Browse Cars” or “Sell Your Car.” The goal was to lead users to their desired actions—whether browsing or listing a car—without unnecessary steps.

The task flow was designed to accommodate both buyers and sellers. Buyers can filter cars by make, model, price range, and other important attributes, and are given easy access to detailed information, including car history and seller reviews. Sellers can easily list their cars by following a straightforward process, including uploading vehicle details and pictures.

One key decision was to simplify the browsing experience by using large, clear images and concise information, which would encourage users to engage with the listings. Another important decision was to integrate trust signals like seller reviews and detailed car condition reports to enhance confidence in the buying process.

Research Summary

I studied leading used car platforms such as Carousell and Carsome, which are highly popular in Malaysia, to identify successful design strategies and common user concerns. These platforms use a clean, grid-based design that showcases car listings with easy-to-understand filters and vehicle details. I incorporated similar strategies but focused more on user trust elements, such as customer reviews and detailed car condition information, to ensure users felt confident in their purchasing decisions.

Design Approach

Designed a simple, intuitive landing page with a clean layout that prioritizes essential information like car listings, search filters, and CTAs

Used large, high-quality images for car listings to give users a real sense of the vehicle they’re considering purchasing

Integrated a straightforward search function with intuitive filters that allow users to easily browse cars by make, model, price, and other features

Included trust elements such as detailed vehicle condition descriptions, customer reviews, and secure payment options to build credibility and confidence among users

Impact / Outcome

  • The landing page successfully attracted both buyers and sellers, increasing the number of car listings and inquiries from potential buyers

  • Users reported a smooth browsing experience, with easy access to search filters and clear car information, which led to higher engagement rates

  • Sellers appreciated the straightforward listing process, which allowed them to quickly post their vehicles without unnecessary steps

  • Future Recommendations:

    • Enhance the platform by integrating a car inspection feature where users can schedule inspections for peace of mind

    • Introduce advanced filtering options, such as car age, mileage, and condition ratings, to improve the browsing experience for users

    • Consider adding a car comparison tool to allow buyers to compare different vehicles side by side
